| Summary: | Social security handbook summarizes information about Social Security programs and contains brief description of related programs administered by other agencies, such as Black Lung, unemployment insurance, state supplementation of SSI, food stamps, Administration for Children and Families, workers' compensation, railroad retirement, veterans benefits and government employees insurance systems. This handbook included the provisions of the Social Security Act, as amended through December 31, 1996, regulations issued under the Act, and precedential case decisions (rulings). Should there be conflict between the contents of the Handbook and the Act, Regulations and Rulings the latter take precedence.
